Bridges

This photo is from a trip to Austin over the Summer. My family was staying in a hotel near South Congress, and we had decided we would go watch the bats when the sun went down. Originally, I had brought may camera to take pictures of the bats, but there were too many people in front of me to get a quality picture. I knew I still wanted to get pictures of something, so I started taking pictures of the view, cars going by, the rows of buildings lighting up as it got darker, but as the sun went down, it was the bridge itself that caught my attention. I noticed the way the light reflected off of it, its geometry, the spider webs between the bars. I’ve always been interested in lines and geometry in photography. After playing with composition, I realized I wanted to capture the buildings in the background and the lines of the bridge from an interesting perspective. I actually had to bend sideways over the side of the bridge for this photo. Totally worth it though.
